If these tools don't work under stress, why does everyone recommend them? They work — just not in the way most people use them. The research supporting breathwork, meditation, and journaling is largely based on consistent practice over time, not single-use interventions during acute stress episodes. The gap between "this has good evidence" and "this will help me right now, in this moment" is where most people's experience lives.
Is this about discipline? Am I just not trying hard enough? No. The prefrontal impairment that happens under stress is involuntary and neurochemical.
